(a flash piece of exactly 100 words)
“Mayday. Mayday. This is Big Red. Cloaking device has malfunctioned.”
“Big Red, this is NORAD. We have you directly over Pyongyang. Drop ordnance and bug out.”
“Negative. Situation too hot. SAMs inbound. Taking evasive maneuvers. Oh God, oh God. I’m hit! Losing altitude. More SAMs inbound. Releasing countermeasures! Aaaah!”
“Come in, Big Red! Do you read?”
“Propulsion down fifty percent. Jettisoning cargo. Aaah!”
“Bail out, bail out, bail out!”
“Negative, NORAD. Cloaking device reengaged. Flight path stabilized. Heading across DMZ. Alert Seoul INC Airport. Have veterinary team standing by. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, and Vixen severely wounded.”
“Copy that. Godspeed, Santa.”

WHY WE CHOSE TO PUBLISH 24 December 2087:
What’s not to love about a flash fiction Christmas piece that tells a full story in only 100 words? Kudos to Steven Wittenberg Gordon for bringing smiles and a touch of emotion in extremely tight writing.
