GODZILLA vs THERAPY by Sam Smith

Godzilla was feeling anxious. “You need to move forward,” his therapist had shouted through a megaphone out of his 77th-floor office window.

Military helicopters thundered through the sky, their rotors charred from Godzilla’s breath. He flicked one with a colossal scaly claw, and it whirled into an apartment block, crumpling like a tin can on impact.

“Don’t focus on them. They’re distracting you from the bigger picture,” his therapist continued. “Right now, you’re potential energy. And I need you to be kinetic energy.”

Godzilla lifted one gigantic foot and stepped forward, crushing a community centre into smouldering rubble. Bystanders screamed hoarsely as they fled the scene.

“Don’t worry, there’s always going to be people who don’t like change. But you have to be the best nuclear mutant lizard you can be.”

Godzilla lifted his shoulders in what onlookers would later describe as a shrug and brought his other foot forward. There was a deafening crash, and bricks rained down on people below as a ghostly dust cloud billowed outwards.

A tiny figure sailed through the smoke, arms and legs flying. As he fell to his death, he shouted, “I’m still going to have to charge you for a full session, I’m afraid…”
