Shakespeare had died. He was preparing to enter the great beyond.
God greeted him. “What have you done?” asked God to Shakespeare.
“I wrote Macbeth, Hamlet, and King Lear,” Shakespeare replied.
“I could have written those plays in my sleep,” God proclaimed. “Why do you even try to write? It just shows how dumb you are, that you think to be or not to be and so forth is clever.”
“I reckon I’m not going to heaven.”
“I would have considered it,” God said. “But I really don’t like your earring.”

WHY WE CHOSE TO PUBLISH “Shakespeare Meets God”:
Different thoughts exist regarding what flash fiction should be. Our view is that, like any other piece of fiction, it should tell a story. If it doesn’t do that, you can call it “flash” but leave the “fiction” part off.
How many of us have seen that picture of Shakespeare but never paid attention to the earring? Author Brett Abrahamsen did, and he crafted a brief, yet complete, story around it. We found the resulting flash fiction piece so hilarious that we felt we’d being doing our magazine a disservice by not publishing it.
